Designing for Daughter.

Have you ever seen a cute living space in a magazine and loved every scrap of it? I happen upon that situation all of the time. Rip, cut, pull… and out come the tear sheets for my style file or inspiration board. This is certainly the case with an article on the super designer mother-daughter duo from Good Bones Great Pieces. Mom Suzanne is an Emmy-winning producer, garnering five Emmys over her decade-long career at Martha Stewart Living Television and daughter Lauren is a former fashion features writer for Teen Vogue magazine. What an incredible journey those two are on! Recently published in Traditional Home, savvy mom helped daughter design a cozy fresh and bright post college NYC apartment sourcing recycles, heirloom, flea market and sometimes slightly imperfect pieces that are budget friendly, stylish, feminine, and oh-so-timeless. Hats off to this new graduate, her helpful supermom, and the lovely new home! Check out the results!

A Yard of Fruit Flavor.

I fell in love with Amanda Nisbett’s line of fabrics stocked through Holland & Sherry when I saw last month’s Traditional Home magazine. The col0rs are sweet and fresh and have adorable names like Grape Fizz and Lollipop. The textiles accompany a new line of lighting fixtures Amanda has launched through the Urban Electric Company. I’m thinking about Spring and these cute patterns and perfectly paired colors are an immediate escape to a tropical place.

20 Young Designers.

Traditional Home is not as stuffy as you may think. The word “Traditional” in the cover frames this publication to be more chintz and high wing back chair, then transitional, fun, serious at times but none-the-less a fan of mine. The website for the magazine boasts its new 20 young design professional favorites. Not sure if advertising spending on their part or the style of their clients home played a part. They are darn good at their craft! In any case, they’ve got talent and refreshing ideas for which I do admire (see my favorites below!). Transitional, traditional, or contemporary in spirit, you might too.
