Hot Tub Time Machine Gone Modern.

I just arrived to Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia with the dog. We got lucky with a one bedroom condo that allows four-legged friends. Whew. Hello Whistlepunk!  I vividly recall the six-hour road trip to the top of Snowshoe as a kid involved passing by Whistlepunk’s Barvarian design condominiums on route to another townhouse or value condo for six further along the ridge. Let me tell you, this place is quite different then it was over 12 years ago. Developers, architects and designers are turning their attention to ski resorts, helping to redefine the experience of the typical ski holiday. And you all know I love good innovative design.

With that said, I have my ski eyes set on Fjall Ski Lodge, Falls Creek.

I love the way The Cool Hunter blog eloquently points out:

Taking inspiration from classic European chalets, sophisticated, design-led ski resorts and lodges are popping all over the world. From Australia to Austria, the new ski holiday is as much about the experience of kicking back in beautiful surroundings at the end of a long day of skiing, as it is about the runs.

Which is why I love the look of Fjall Ski Lodge in Falls Creek in Victoria. Can you resist apres-ski here?

The One in Steamboat.

My vacation is here! I’m enjoying apres-ski in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I spent the day on the slopes taking in the panoramic views and the charming aspects of the mountain’s ski town at the base. The stone, metal, glass, and timber architecture is fantastic – not somehing I’m fond of back home but slopeside, its all thumbs up. After picking up a Steamboat Springs token pin (have collected them from each ski trip since I was a kid), I stumbled upon the pretty facade of One Steamboat Place. Open for only nine days, this Signature Development of Timbers Resorts is nestled next to the gondola in Steamboat. This luxury resort offers whole ownership private residences with the services and amenities of a five-star resort. Beautifully designed with sustainable design and preservation in mind, the resort retained a very talented designer to finish out the interior spaces. As an interior decorator myself, I was happy top see many of the accessories and furniture pieces from some of my favorite manufacturers. And its beautiful! I tried to get in to take a peak, but the entry was locked. No fear, Michael from Sales was there. Michael let me in so I could take some pics. Look why!

The statement lamp looks great next to the blood red chain embroidered panels.

One Steamboat Place Den

In the den, cozy seating options abound.

Patterns and textures are big in ski country. Love the saffron yellow ottoman.

Ski Bunny.

I’m off to Steamboat in mid-January for a ski adventure that’s been a long time waiting! Aside from the exercises I need to do between now and the day I snap those boots tight, I had to assess my ski gear situation to see what still fit and what I had to go out and buy. In preparation for this four day adventure, I pulled out my old stuff, tried everything on, and immediately exclaimed “I need a new jacket and pants – these are huge and so dated”. So, the shopping junky that I am, the search was on for some cute apparel that was neither black nor too baggy. I went to the local Dicks Sporting store and Sports Authority. Found a nice white jacket by the cold weather apparel company Spyder (love that line) and a pair of glossy white goggles by Scott. Then I hunted online for coordinating ski pants at Peter Glenn and I Ski Shop. I just got a blue pair in the mail from WinterDivas.com, and although they are a little baggy, I think I can deal – the weather is going to be chilly and the last thing I need is frostbite! The adorable result? Check out my new look (thanks to my mom for giving me such a cool Christmas gift!). I hope these pieces are as attractive on a black diamond slope in five years as they will look in January in Colorado! Swoosh SWOOSH!

Love this fun hat!

A sleek profile with glossy white frame. So cool!

Tried this one at Dicks and had to buy it! SO warm!

I have a small frame so I swim in ski pants - however, these are too cute to boot!

White jacket needs waterproof white gloves.

Ergonomic and lightly padded ski socks. Hope these keep painful shins away!

Just a Thought.
