Light as a Feather, Strong as a Bag.

My husband can vouch that I’m quite the talented acquirer of any kind of soft storage sack with one or two straps. Totes, satchels, cross-bodies, you name it. I want it. I’ve yet to place my order for one {or all four colors}, but this Air Tote Bag from Meet Me Here is on my immediate bag radar list.

It would have been excellent for days at the beach and even a catchall for weekly dry-cleaning. With a baby on the way, I also imagine it carrying those odds and ends that seem to overflow the typical tote. Inspired by Japanese origami, these simple bags are made from remnant mesh and vegetable tanned leather. They measure about 16″ x 20″ x 4″ so they are perfect lightweight carry all for your everyday needs.

And the leather straps dress up the simple mesh fabric. Now, which color should I designate for fabric samples from the Design Center… which for baby toys?

iPhone Leather Back in Black. Or Tan. How about Green.

Here’s to the *new* iPhone back cover – the Valentine Leather Back. I love the idea of a seamless leather surface on the iPhone. So rich. So timeless. Now that my rubber and plastic Apple iPhone bumper is finally breaking (yeah, what’s up with that?), I might consider something a little more streamlined, organic, and textural. Valentine sells a large assortment of premium grade leathers offering a broad range of color, texture and finish. The pressure sensitive adhesive backs are simple to apply and leave no residue upon removal. Plus, they are made in good ‘ol NYC. Another bonus is they fit seamlessly under the apple iPhone 4 bumper. Just in case.

Sandal Sweet Spot.

I saw the post from blogger KeepItChic about her yearning for that splash of navy in her wardrobe with a custom all blue pair of K. Jacques Triton sandal. I was just in St. Tropez last September and got fitted for my very first custom natural leather pair of Picons from K. Jacques 16 rue Seillon store. I can’t to wait to finally break them in this Spring. So, I empathize with you KIC about these sandals. When in Capri in 2002, I scored three custom pairs of leather flip flops (imitations now sold at so many retailers – like JCrew who calls it their Capri sandal. Go figure.). Blue would be a great touch for a neutral palette of which I am in the same club. And while we’re shopping, I’ll take a US size 7.5 in the Columbia’s for that animal print obsession I can’t quit (I’m restrained. I promise.). Ten years and counting.

Leaving On A Jet Plane.

And I don’t know when I’ll be back again. Especially if I get to lug around this beauty of a satchel. Take me away to that special place for the weekend while I pack my favorite duds in the Mullholland Brothers Weekend Bag. The Larait leather is the most beautiful color skin (sorry animal activists!). It’s stylish, right-on-trend, and will last a lifetime if you take it to the most amazing locales! Zappos says there’s only one left in this leather/color combination… first one there wins the prize! The Stout goes to the close second.

Totally ready for my next trip with this weekend bag!

To Market to Market to Buy a…

A trip to the South of France, Monaco and hopefully a hop over to see my friends Matt and Julie in Tiblisi is in the works. I had visited France once before and found I needed a bigger and more chic travel tote. This French market bag from Maison de Kristine is a no brainer as a tote for the local farmers market and even as a travel hand bag to stash any souvenirs, sunglasses, camera, and Pashmina scarf. I could also put it to good use at the Washington Design Center when carrying samples and swatches. I’m ordering it tomorrow. Gotta feed my hand bag addiction! =)

Mad for Malachite.

IfWith St. Patrick’s Day behind us and a green green spring (and environmental attitude) ahead, I’m mad for all things green. Especially the earthy but glamourous look of the mineral stone malachite. There is a great history behind this unique mineral. In Greek mythology, the throne of Demeter, goddess of grain and harvest, was fashioned from malachite and adorned with golden pigs and ears of barley (maybe she liked pork chops and beer for dinner?). Up until about 1800, Malachite was used as a mineral pigment in green paints.

And today, the rock band Green Day used malachite in the lyrics of their song 2000 Light Years Away, as a metaphor to lead singer and songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong’s green eyes. My interest however lies mostly in it’s as a lifestyle accent in jewelry and home decor pieces.

Heavy Mexican Metal.

When I began my tenure at the interior design firm where I am still employed (thank the heavens), my resourceful self came across a line of furniture that was unique in style, very hand-crafted in looks, and simple in form. A specific dining chair caught my attention and because of this perfect find, eight upholstered peices now take residence in the dining room of one of our clients homes. This side chair, called the Opera, is made by artisans at Mexico based Casamidy.

Started in 1998 by two designers, Anne-Marie Midy and Jorge Almada, Casamidy is the result of a need for creative exploration and a joint visit to Hermes. Months after that visit, the two moved to Mexico to become immersed in the use of metals, leathers and fabrics that make up much of the numerous furniture and accessory lines.

Inspired by areas tiles, locations, and vista throughout the world, Anne-Marie and Jorge employ top iron-smiths to fabricate their ideas into long-lasting and one of my favorite furniture lines now favored among top interior designers and home decor magazines across the world.
