It Takes a Village.

I’ve been thinking about the holidays a lot {I now, I’m probably behind the game} and how I plan to decorate, shop, ship, sparkle and celebrate. I hope to get in a day of cookie making – look out for my recipe for what’s planned to be my new holiday tradition sweet} – and came across this cute cue pan from RedEnvelope.com. This adorable winter village cake pan creates six different village buildings to be decorated with icing, powdered sugar or gingerbread touches. I love the idea of everyone having their own personal cake. This adorable addition to your baking bonanza is bound to give you a lifetime of village goers.

Top Bedside Tables for a Patient of Perfection.

There are three things left to purchase to perfect my bedroom look – an upholstered bed and possibly two bedside tables. I have two great ones now but could use a little discreet storage {ahem}. I’ve given myself to the end of the year to make it happen. I like the symmetry of a bed being squeezed by two of the same thing… It gives me  a sense of order before bedtime. After peeling through the latest Serena & Lily catalog, which just gets better and better, I rest my eyes on the Ceylon Side Table. A symmetrical, functional, and stylish bed side table with storage. Then I thought, but I still like that other one from Bungalow 5. Or that one from Oly Studio works beautifully. I want to experience them all. That’s the fun of being a decorator. An eternally practicing patient of perfection. =)

House of Squash.

I had to share this photo with you readers and any architects. Vicky Moon shared with me this very cool photo of the Pumpkin Village at the Dallas Arboretum. Who knew that there were this many squash varietals to raise the roof?! I would love to see this in person before the squirrels get their little teeth and hands on it! Great autumn idea!

Timeless Cali-appeal.

Something about this California home is so inviting, so no-nonsense, and so timeless. Take away all of the trends, take away all of the glitz, remove abstract art and materials and this is what you have. A laid-back, serene, calm, California charm of a home.

Doggy Door Knockers.

I was lounging on a boat a few months ago chatting up ideas with my honey  and I began to wonder if there was a way to get a door knocker in the exact likeness of my pup Alpha without spending a gazillion dollars. With the recent emergency pet hospital room visit (cha-ching), anything custom is going to have to go hide in the dog house for a little while. In the interim, Michael Healy satisfies my yearning with his collection of handcrafted solid bronze door knockers sand casted as popular dog breeds — mine being the German Shepherd Dog – of course.

A ‘Real’ Look Inside 2000 S Street.

Okay. The MTV Real World crew has moved out of their primo corner Victorian home in Dupont Circle. Filming has ended and we finally get a good (and messy) look into how they lived and even more importantly to me, how the interior was designed, furnished and accessorized. I have to say, MTV has a quite a creative design team, and although I at first had my doubts after seeing a few columns and eagle silhoettes, I’ve changed my mind. Get the tour from the Washington Post here!

Aside from the interior beautification, these kids were not the best at house-keeping. For an entertaining tour of the house pre-move-out, watch these two cast members show us who slept where, what happens behind closed doors, and what stays cool in the fridge. =)

Here is the full article and video link by Dan Zak of the Post. This is not the real world for most of us! But by the sign of smiley Andrew, they sure had a good time. =)
