AKA Chair. A.K.A. A Very Cool Chair.

As you all know, I am a huge fan of lucite. I loved the clear Swatch watch. Had to have the clear twin phone (well, it was clear pink), and now own clear Ghost chairs and a waterfall table. All in moderation, I promise. Sold through DWR, the AKA Chair is a promising choice for seating – whether it’s dining or as an accent chair.  It is a hybrid approach to materials with a light and comfortable clear or opaque body and four strong oak legs. “It reveals a tough character without losing its image of lightness,” said the designer.

Plus and Minus.

Time to get back to basics. How about this 1970’s children’s game as a start? Just as intriguing for an adult as it is for a kid, Plus and Minus sold at Design Within Reach consists of 72 cards, each with a different image. Forty-eight cards have transparent backgrounds, allowing them to be layered over each other to create evolving and compelling scenes. Deal the cards out and let each player add a layer, creating increasing complex stories. Creativity for all ages.

Hey DWR DC fans! Steve Glenn, the visionary founder of LivingHomes, will be at the Adams Morgan Studio on February 25th from 7-9pm to share his experiences working with leading architects while discussing the specific elements that go into a LivingHome, from its factory construction to on-site installation. His award-winning prefabricated homes combine world-class architecture with an unparalleled commitment to healthy and sustainable construction. The developer of the nation’s first LEED Platinum home, Glenn is one of the more experienced builders of environmentally conscious homes in the United States. I’ll be there. Will you?

Free Brunch! And maybe something to eat it on?

Join DWR Adams Morgan to celebrate the annual Mix or Match Sale. Home Sweet Home… Old School.

Emily Pilloton shares with readers of Interiordesign.net the coolest home on wheels since its predecessor, the older and less “pretty” Airstreams of yesteryear. Oh the summers of orange Tupperware meals and slim pickings on the radio (if you had one). Emily tells us how she took to the road this summer with temporary digs in a 1972 Airstream trailer – taking with her bare necessities and learning to live with that old-fashioned summer camp feeling. But for the rest of us folk who choose to live a bit more luxuriously, even if that means in today’s creature comforts  – without the creaks and the hard mattress of moldy foam, I want you to meet the Trailer of Design Within Reach.

With a withering customer base and 50-year old average demographic, DWR commissioned the longtime Airstream collaborator  Christopher Deam to come up with a holistic model for a touring vehicle that would perfectly telegraph the DWR core values of authorship and curated authority in design. And here it came rolling in… The Design Within Reach Trailer. Lets hit the country road or city streets. Summers almost over so get out there and ride on!
