School’s in Session. Let the Games begin!

School is officially in session for many Washingtonian’s. With today’s cool morning air, the rumble of yellow buses packed to the gills, and the burgundy and gold back on the practice field (C’mon Skins), I’ve got my mind fleeing to the nostalgia of high school football games under dark skies. No bleacher or bench is complete without a couple woolen throws pulled from the back of the car. Nor is a lake house or mountain lodge finished without welcoming striped virgin wool blankets folded at the end of a bed. Pendleton USA has some distinctive wool blankets that have been milled in Oregon’s Blue Mountains for over 100 years.

My favorite has to be the Glacier National Park Blanket. Some other companies have tried to replicate it but it’s best to stick with an original. This was one of the first made by Pendleton. The markings and colors date by to Trading Post times where the numbers of lines indicated the weight and value of the blanket.

Colors and variations of the original striped theme have been adapted to reflect distinguishing characteristics of each park and blanket in the Pendleton collection. The Acadia National Park Blanket brings a more mysterious and variegated pattern to its woven wool designs.

The Grand Canyon National Park Blanket, symbolizes a favorite place to visit for American and foreign tourists alike. This blanket has a navy blue background and sunset stripes. I think it’s a great combination of color and design to represent the red soils and blue waters of this majestic land.

The rich colors of the dyed red wool yarns makes this blanket a fiery choice. Representing the Rainier National Park, this fiery beauty deserves to be taken most anywhere a warmer night is required. The intricate patterns of these Native American blankets are inspired by ancient designs and legends that Pendelton has exemplified for over 100 years.
