A Brush with Benefits.

Many posts back, I wrote about the Art in Architecture Auction I attended and won a bid for an ink sketch on a paper dinner napkin by famed architect Cesar Pelli.  The idea of collecting objects that symbolize something related to the object itself (get it?) is a really wonderful idea. That’s when I read about a similar auction on blog If It’s Hip, It’s Here. The Rotofugi Gallery, designer toy store and gallery in Chicago, had this idea of auctioning off the actual used and signed art brushes of lowbrow surrealist, and underground artists and illustrators on eBay. Each brush has an attached paper tag containing the name and signature of the artist, the date and how the brush was used. Proceeds benefit Gigi’s Playhouse, a not-for-profit Down syndrome awareness center. The auction ends this weekend.
