The Art of Architecture Auction.

Last night was a blast! I am now a proud owner of a paper napkin sketch created by the famed architect Cesar Pelli. I bid for this original ink drawing at the Art in Architecture Auction held last night in the amazing space at Hickok Cole’s office in Georgetown, Washington, DC. The AIA DC Chapter asked the greatest architects all over the world to donate a hand-drawn sketch on a paper napkin (love love love that idea). The proceeds benefit the Washington Architectural Foundation and many of its programs for children in the community.

My auction number was a lucky 8 and before that gavel swung towards the table, my hand was up and I gave them my final offer. And I am thrilled to start my art collection with this marvel of a design. Cesar Pelli has designed many of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including the World Financial Center in New York, the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, and the International Finance Center in Hong Kong. My winning peice is a sketch of the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pelli was asked by Tulsa city officials to create an arena that would be an architectural icon. The bold and unique architectural design of BOK Center reflects the client’s desire.

Winners!

The smaller sketch to the right was won by my best friend. It’s an original sketch done by Adrian Smith who is a lead architect on what’s to be the worlds tallest building in Dubai!  I love the rick lines and perfect scale! Two wonderful investments to hang on the wall!
