Springtime is Cherry!

The start of Spring typically hails the beginning blooms of the Washington DC’s Cherry Blossom trees. Swarms of tourists pack the nations capitol in early April to catch the Tidal Basin’s famous tree’s in peak bloom, but my recollection of recent years is that of rainy days and watered down pink petals covering the ground. Hopefully this year we’ll get some decent photos of not-so-naked-trees.

I came across this furniture created for an outdoor cherry blossom party in Tokyo. Klein Dytham Architecture designed abstract shaped blocks mimicking the famous Cherry Blossom flower. Check out this perspective and how the piece looks after production! Very refreshing!

While some of us like something large and functional such as above, others choose something more colorful, personal, and permanent. I may have only been inked once (and interestingly enough, have a similar flower), but this Cherry Blossom tattoo is quite popular in Japan. Put it where you want, but make sure it’s not the Plum Blossom (the Cherry version has a V notched into the tip of the petal).

And if you need something to help convince yourself that a tattoo is a good idea or even to take away the pain of getting inked, stir up this pink concoction and celebrate wherever and however you like.

Cherry Blossom Cocktail

  • .5 oz Cherry Liqueur
  • 1.5 tsp Grenadine

Moisten rim of cocktail glass with cherry brandy and rub rim in powdered sugar. Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a sugar rimed glass. . Top with the cherry and serve….

Lastly, happy Spring to you! I hope to see you in Washington DC. Bring your camera and don’t forget a rain jacket – I have a feeling its going to be a wet one.
